The Scent of Ostend
The Project
The ‘Scent of Ostend’ was our first large multimedia project. The voice you hear is that of Baron James Ensor as he takes his daily constitutional through Ostend. He talks about ‘his’ Ostend, about the dyke, life on the beach, carnival and of course about his paintings. We combined the story with archive photographs so as to give visitors a picture of early twentieth-century Ostend as they follow Ensor through its streets. Most visitors are absolutely amazed to see what Ostend looked like a hundred years ago. We used the Apple iPod Touch and, believe us, it really was the only device that was up to the job!
Those wishing to do the walk can hire an Apple iPod Touch from the Tourist Office in Ostend or from Mu.Zee.
